Early Learning Center Staff

MICHELLE SILKE – Early Learning Center Director

Michelle is married and has four children and three grandchildren! She has been the Early Learning Center Director since June 2013. She has worked in the childcare field for 17 years and has a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential. Michelle also oversees the volunteers in our nursery, preschool, and special needs environments during church services at Curtis Lake.
She loves working with the children and their families to form a partnership in learning!

RACHEL BAILEY – Toddler Teacher

Rachel has worked in the childcare field for 17 years. She has been part of the Curtis Lake team since June 2014. She previously ran a small center with her mother, worked as a one-on-one support through Waban and was an infant & toddler lead teacher. She is currently working on finishing her degree in Early Childhood Education. She and her husband, Mark, have an 8 year-old daughter, Olivia. They have been regular attenders at Curtis Lake Church for 4 years.

 – Lead Toddler Teacher 

Karyn is a mother of four, with three stepchildren as well! She has an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as numerous trainings in the childcare field. When she is not working, she enjoys working out at the gym!

 – ‘My Place’ Classroom Teacher 

Marie Briggs has an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education and has been in the field for over 15 years. She and her husband have five children and two dogs. Her passion is in working with young children and creating learning environments where children of all abilities can learn and grow together.

“I love the important work of the young child and being able to partner with families to help children attain their goals. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with the children and families in this community.”

Before & After School Teacher

Joe is a hard-working young man. He works with school-aged students enrolled in our Before and After School Care Program. He is also a youth leader in the Curtis Lake Youth Ministry and the Young Life organization. Joe ran track and cross country for six years and loves to yo-yo. Ask him to show you a yo-yo trick… he’s incredible!

CASSEY MORSE – Toddler Teacher

Cassey has a passion for kids and loves teaching. She has volunteered in Kids Church at her home church for years and loves every moment of it. She is working toward earning her degree in Early Childhood Education and Development.


Lead Preschool Teacher

Melitta is originally from the Midwest. She has three children and has been a preschool teacher at the ELC since April 2015.

Before & After School Teacher

Mike was raised here in Maine and grew up with ambitions of helping others achieve their dreams, no matter what shape that takes. He is a Curtis Lake Church intern as part of his education with the Antioch School of Church Leadership and Church Planting. He is working toward earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry. Mike enjoys being a positive impact in the lives of kids here at the ELC.

Lead Infant Teacher

Amanda has been working at the Curtis Lake Early Learning Center since February 2013. She is currently working on getting her Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She enjoys volunteering in Kidz Church, reading and spending time with her husband, Zach.

Before & After School Director

Zach is the director of our Before and After School programs. He also serves at the church as the Elementary Ministries intern. He is a student at the Antioch School of Church Planting and Leadership Development, where he is studying Church Ministries and aspiring to be a Children’s Pastor.

Zach grew up here in Southern Maine and lives in Springvale with his wife, Amanda.

‘My Place’ Classroom Teacher 

Leah has been a special education teacher for 10 years and a preschool special education teacher for 6 years. She has experience working with children with a wide variety of strengths and needs. Leah has worked in the inclusive program (children with and without special needs in the same classroom) for two years and believes wholeheartedly in its effectiveness for all children who participate in it. She enjoys writing, reading and spending time with her family on the New Hampshire seacoast.

Toddler Teacher 

Amy Walker is the mother of five children, including one child with autism. She has over five years of experience working with little ones in childcare centers. She also offered childcare out of her home for five years before her twins went to kindergarten. She has known she wanted to work with children since she began babysitting as a teenager.
