Unthinkable

Unthinkable banner

A man asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” He was looking for an out. An excuse to not help someone. Safety in the confines of his own tiny circle of responsibility. But our “neighbors” aren’t just family or just the people living immediately nearby our homes. Our neighbors live on streets we never travel on and in countries we never visit. Every year, help us touch every street—every home and every person in Sanford as we clean the streets and sidewalks and parks and common areas throughout our city.

Do the Unthinkable

God loves our community and so do we. That is why in 2009 we launched a new effort to be the church that goes out and serves our community. Every year we gather hundreds of volunteers and serve our community. Projects in the past have included painting fences, working and the York County Food Shelter, painting one of the Waban buildings, clean up around Number One Pond, and making storm windows for transitional housing.

I am emailing to extend a big THANK YOU to the volunteers from Curtis Lake Church. Not only did I hear how wonderful a job your group did from the staff , I also heard from a few members that they were very impressed with all who participated. Please let everyone know that I am extremely grateful for their time and work performed.

Andrew Orazio CEO, Sanford YMCA

We really appreciate the support! We would love to host another “unthinkable”. Please keep us in mind. Thanks again!

Tom Ledue Lebanon Elementary Schools Principal

Please express my sincere thanks to the members of the church who came out especially Mike who was in charge. We got to paint the main body of the block building and some of the red trim. We also painted the guard shack as well. Most importantly all of the tops of the tables and benches of the large picnic shelter were plained and a fresh coat of paint put on all of them.

Marcel G. Blouin Director of Sanford Parks and Recreation

Please express our deep thanks to the Curtis Lake family for its continued involvement in helping their homeless and hungry neighbors.

Joan Sylvester Community Relations Director, York County Shelter Programs
