A plastic fork. How many have I used and discarded one of those in my lifetime? A lot! Probably enough to provide a day's wage to a Filipino. On my GO trip to the Philippines in 2016, I witnessed true poverty...people living on dump sites. Dump sites. People who picked through trash to find "their" item, like plastic forks, to collect and recycle in order to survive.
To this day, the sight of a simple plastic fork can bring me back to that trip and reminds me of how much I have. It also reminds me to pray for those around the world who are in such poverty that they must pick through trash. And not just pray, but support organizations that help bring hope to the hopeless.
